How to Improve our Democracy (Finding a Win-Win Future)

Posted on Any Topic by Duncan Autrey · February 01, 2021 9:11 PM

General Outline:
1) Identify pain points and challenges with status quo representative democracy.
2) Identify qualities of an improved democratic system and process.
3) Explore ways of improving and alternatives to current system.

People are welcome to bring their own ideas, perspectives and concerns to the conversation.

Here are some existing ideas to inspire thinking:
Pain Points: Win-Lose voting system, disproportionate influence on politicians, polarized politics...
Qualities of Improved Democracy: All voices heard and considered, diversity of perspectives leads to better decisions, processes that support win-win solutions, better listening and collaboration...
Potential Alternatives: Citizen Assemblies, micro-democracy (eg: neighborhood councils), public policy dialogues, virtual consensus-building tools (e.g.: ethelo.org), decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs)...

NCP is an overarching, collaborative platform that aggregates, aligns, and amplifies the efforts of 300 organizations in the #ListenFirst Coalition to mainstream conversations in which we #ListenFirst to understand. NCP promotes annual National Weeks of Conversation, #ListenFirst Fridays, Rapid Response & Featured Conversations on Major Issues, Locally-Focused #ListenFirst Movements, and any conversation creating social connection. National Conversation Project is managed by Listen First Project, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
