The next Better Angels Member Call Sept. 25, 8 pm ET, which will feature a Conversation About Guns. Four highly knowledgeable members, two red and two blue, will discuss their perspectives on gun rights/gun control, then answer questions from attendees. You can become a member of Better Angels for as low as $12 per year. Visit www.better-angels.org/join. Once you join, log in, and register for this Zoom call by clicking on the link at the top of the Members Portal page.
Our participants will be:
Cindy Kyser, red, member of the NRA, belongs to a local gun club and shoots regularly at an outdoor range. She is an avid deer hunter (to fill her freezer, not for sport) and hunts wild hogs, on occasion. She has a Concealed Carry License and has owned firearms for 30+ years in a southern state.
Mark Beckwith, blue, the retired bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, NJ. After the Newtown CT shooting in 2012, he helped form Bishops United Against Gun Violence, a national network of nearly 100 bishops who focus on education, education and public witness. He has served as the bishop liaison to other gun violence prevention organizations.
Kirk Whatley, red, owner of Whatley Training LLC in Hadley Massachusetts, which provides shooting sports and firearms training. He is an NRA Certified Firearm Instructor and Range Safety Officer, a Life Member of the Second Amendment Foundation, and has 40 years experience with firearms and the firearms industry.
Shani Nuckols, blue, leader of the South Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, one of the largest grassroots organizations in the country. She works with an active group of "mothers and others" to promote common sense legislative reforms, and notes that she is not a gun owner.
